my email address is not allowed?

Hi Admins
I have set my account up with an email address that's my work one, which I'd rather not use - I'd like to use my private one, but when I try to change it I get a message saying 'that email address is not allowed'. What's the problem with it? I'm not sure posting my email here is the done thing, so if someone can help, I can pm it to them.
